Surrealistic development of a self-portrait

My first intension was it to paint just an ordinary self-portrait. While searching for the right motive I was listening to "La Puerta Del Cielo" by Enigma. It really drove me to change my first thought of the ordinary portrait and made me choose a picture where only my shoulder and my neck is visible, and my necklace and earrings.

I started to want to evoid my face. Not because I don't like it, just because it's the most important part of a portrait. A little controversal.

So I began to draw and paint.

Plain colors made the portrait look like a portrait of someone dead.

Added more stronger colors. Maybe it's called more chroma.

It looked so empty as something was missing... the idea to draw a skull on my cheek crawled into my mind. Perfect!
